We welcome you to the July issue of Inside ATLAS.ti, packed with news and tips about ATLAS.ti and qualitative methods. In this issue, we interview Dr. Lisa Arensen from the School of Field Studies, who discusses her work in traditional ecological knowledge and oral histories in Rural Cambodia. In the best practice article, Dr. Susanne Friese explains the translation of grounded theory concepts to the coding process in ATLAS.ti. We also tell you about events we have sponsored in June and July and the calendar of training activities for the next few months.

ATLAS.ti sponsored the 6th Annual IPSA-NUS Summer Methods School

The 6th Annual IPSA-NUS Summer School for Social Science Research Methods was held on June 19-30, 2017, at the National University of Singapore. ATLAS.ti is proud to be one of the sponsors of the School for its fourth consecutive year. On June 22, 2017, Ani Munirah Mohamad, manager of international projects in the Asia/Pacific region, taught a half-day class on qualitative analysis with ATLAS.ti to an audience of 40 people.

The Methods School offers a wide variety of basic to advanced courses in quantitative, qualitative and formal methods. All of these courses focus on the theory and practice of social science research and provide high-quality training in methods and techniques by outstanding and highly experienced international faculty. This year, more than 150 delegates from various countries in the world attended the event, with people coming from the United States, the UK, India, Nigeria, Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkey, and many other countries. You may learn more about the Methods School by visiting their website.

Join ATLAS.ti at the 13th Berliner Methodentreffen Qualitative Forschung

ATLAS.ti is once again a proud sponsor of the 13th Methodentreffen Qualitative Forschung (BMT), which will take place in Berlin between July 21 and 22. The BMT is the largest gathering of its kind in Europe. Social researchers from several countries and a multitude of academic disciplines gather to explore the current state of qualitative research through a set of lectures, working groups, and workshops. On second day of the event, Dr. Susanne Friese will co-lead the symposium '50 Years Grounded-Theory-Methodology,' in which participants will discuss the state-of-the-art of Grounded Theory. Winners of the ATLAS.ti in the Classroom Award

ATLAS.ti recently newly introduced the ATLAS.ti Classroom Award program with the purpose of supporting professors who adopt ATLAS.ti in their university courses. The award is given three times a year with awardees receiving a free full license for professors and free six-month licenses for students. As part of the application process, professors need to submit a plan on how they will use ATLAS.ti in class and they must commit to submitting at the end of the semester a short report, including photographs, describing how the software was used and the results of the process. We congratulate the winners of the mid-term ATLAS.ti Classroom Award:

  • Dr. Roslinawati Mohd Roslan from the University Brunei Darussalam in Brunei. Primary Education Science program.

  • Julieta Flores Michel from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo león in Nuevo León, México. Communication Science program.

  • Vilma Cenit Fandiño Osorio from the Universidad de Ciencias Aplicadas y Ambientales U.D.C.A in Bogotá, Colombia. Nursing program.
