Licensing
DST offers three licensing options for its products. There are some differences between commercial and educational licensing and even between some of the commercial products. These situations will all be described.

The licensing options are:

  • Node locked - The software is licensed on a single, specifically identified computer, and can only run on that computer. When a node locked DST product is installed on a computer, some specific information is gathered which allows that particular computer to be uniquely identified. This information is called a fingerprint which is sent to DST, during the activation process and a unique license is generated that works only with that fingerprint. If the software needs to be moved to another computer the license can be revoked from the computer where it is installed which frees the license and allows the DST product to be installed and activated on a new computer. Since this type of license only allows use on a single computer, it is typically the lowest cost.

  • Dongle locked - The software is locked to a hardware lock, a "dongle", which is plugged into a USB port. The software can be loaded on any number of computers, but will only run on the computer that has the dongle attached. Since this type of license provides more flexibility and therefore more value, it is typically more costly than the node locked license

  • Network or Floating
    - The license (or multiple licenses) reside on a central server called a license server. The product software is installed on client computers and when the product

 software is started,

it checks out a license from the license server. When the product software is terminated on the client, the license is checked in and is available for another client to use

Are you looking for an engineering tool that will resolve design problems, reduce failures and warranty costs, turn around designs faster, and work either with your existing Windows-based 3D CAD system or as a standalone application?

SimWise 4D is for design and engineering professionals developing products involving assemblies of 3D parts. By simulating your assemblies in this unique virtual environment, you will produce more creative, robust designs and reduce cycle time.

With SimWise 4D, you can simulate the rigid body dynamics of an assembly, "size" components, determine part interferences and collision response, identify stresses induced by motion, produce physics-based animations, and test your control systems.

A Proven Simulation Tool
SimWise 4D was born when DST acquired a license from MSC Software Corporation to the MSC.visualNastran 4D (vn4D) product. The software traces its roots to the Working Model 3D product developed by Knowledge Revolution, which was acquired by MSC in 1999, extended to include FEA capabilities, and renamed Working Model 4D. It has found tens of thousands of users among engineering professionals, students, and educators.

SimWise 4D is the combination of SimWise Motion and SimWise FEA resulting in one seamlessly integrated mechanical simulation product. SimWise 4D delivers the same independent capabilities as SimWise Motion and SimWise FEA but the integration produces a coupled Motion and FEA capability that computes the stresses resulting from the dynamic loads induced by the motion of an assembly.

SimWise Motion takes a design made up of assemblies of moving parts and simulates the kinematic and dynamic motion of the design allowing you to evaluate its function performance.

SimWise Motion lets you start with an assembly designed in your CAD system or one created using SimWise's basic geometry creation capabilities. The physical properties of each of the parts in the assembly will be calculated and if assembly constraints were present in the CAD mode, they will be automatically converted to SimWise constraints.

SimWise FEA is a Finite Element Analysis tool that performs stress, normal modes, buckling, and heat transfer analysis on mechanical parts. It is highly automated and handles much of the complexity associated with FEA while offering powerful features for users who are steeped in the intricacies of the Finite Element Method.

It imports geometry from your CAD system and allows you to add structural and thermal specific entities to the model resulting in a functional structural prototype of your design. It simulates that prototype using advanced physics and mathematical techniques and presents the results of the simulation in various graphic and numeric formats. You can quickly determine whether your design is robust enough to operate as intended or if modifications are necessary. All on the computer, all without costly and time-consuming physical prototypes and before warranty issues arise.

SimWise Durability is built on widely used fatigue calculation methods. It offers fatigue calculations based on stress life, strain life or factor of safety criteria. It comes with more than 150 materials with fatigue properties based on the SAE J1099 standard. It produces contour plots showin either the fatigue life in cycles, or the factor of safety.

SimWise Durability is an add-on to SimWise 4D and requires a license of SimWise 4D be present prior to its use.
