Announcing 010 Editor v6.0

Hello Soongsil University

010 Editor continues to become more and more powerful with the release of version 6.0. For the first time, 010 Editor is available as a 64-bit and a 32-bit download on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. 64-bit programs can access all the memory on your machine whereas a 32-bit program can only access up to 2 GB of memory.  To view the full list of changes see our webpage:

Download 010 Editor for Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux today:

Note that on Windows a 64-bit and a 32-bit version of 010 Editor can be installed at the same time.

New Look

Version 6 has a new look for the Startup page and the File Bar/Ruler above each editor. By default the Startup page is shown and files are reloaded every time version 6 is run but this can be changed using the Startup Action option on the Startup page.

Find and Regular Expressions

Find speed is increased in Version 6.0, up to 10 times faster for some searches. The default Find type for text files is now Text instead of ASCII. Text can be used to search for text in the character set of the current file, whether that be Unicode, UTF-8, ASCII, etc. The ASCII find type is now just used to find ASCII+ANSI strings.

010 Editor now supports regular expressions using the Search with Regular Expressions toggle in the Find Bar Options. Regular expressions are a powerful syntax for finding string data and the image above shows using a regular expression '\b\d{4}-\d{4}\b' to find a set of dates in a file. Regular expressions can also be used with syntax highlighting and with script functions. A number of seaches can be done with regular expressions that were difficult to do before. For example, search for '[^\x00]' to locate the first non-zero hex byte in a file. To learn more about regular expressions see:

New Tutorial

A new tutorial is now included to teach the basics of writing your own Binary Templates. Access the new tutorial using 'Help > Tutorials > Writing Binary Templates'.

Other Enhancements

A whole range of other enhancements are included with Version 6.0:

  • Exporting Template Results as XML.
  • Importing Find Results.
  • Layout Template Results to the right of the Hex Editor.
  • Better support for Mac Retina displays.
  • Always Reload or Always Ignore options when a file is changed external to 010 Editor.
  • -line and -goto command line parameters.
  • Plus much more.

Upgrades and Pricing

If you purchased 010 Editor within the last year you are eligible for a free upgrade to version 6.0; However, if you purchased 010 Editor more than a year ago you will have to purchase an upgrade to use the new version. If you do require an upgrade, the new version can be used as a 30-day trial to see if you would like to upgrade.

The easiest way to determine if you require an upgrade is to click 'Tools > Register' on the 010 Editor main menu. If using 010 Editor 3.0 or later, you should see a line near the bottom that says 'Support/Maintenance (Free Upgrades) Expires:'. If the date listed there is before the official release date (Dec 16th, 2014), you will require an upgrade. Note that if you are eligible for a free upgrade, you do not have to obtain a new license and your old license will automatically work with the new version.

To purchase an upgrade costs $39.95 for a commercial license or $19.95 for a home/academic license. Multi-user discounts are available and purchases can be made from our online store:

Older versions of 010 Editor are still available for download from our main download page.

Thanks to all of our customers and it's by your feedback and suggestions that 010 Editor has become more powerful. Please continue to send us your ideas and we hope you enjoy using the new version.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Joyous Holiday,

Sincerely,
The SweetScape Software Team
