Writing apps for mobile devices

All of a sudden it seems the smartphone has grown up. It now has some great benefits, compared to that old Nokia I used to have. Data always on, check. Internet access, check. Fast CPU, check. Touch screen, check. And big too, check. A myriad of different OSes, check.

Er, what? How's that a benefit again?

Significant Enhancements Continue in XPO and XAF

The DevExpress Frameworks teams have been committed to providing you with significantly enhanced products during the 2010 release cycle. The team have really been pulling out the stops, and their commitment is certainly showing.

This week, Gary highlights yet another selection of new functionality and features that you can expect to get your hands on with the upcoming release of DXperience v2010 vol 2.

Take a look and tell us what you think.

* ASP.NET Theme Support in XAF
* Improvements to the Printing and Reporting Modules for XAF
* XPO - Only Update Modified Properties
* Direct SQL Queries with XPO
* XPO is Uncoupled from ADO.NET Providers

Value-added Improvements to DevExpress WinForms Controls

Back in December, Julian advised us all that while the 2010 development cycle would not include the release of brand new WinForms controls, customers would see continuing enhancements and improvements to their existing controls.

This week both Ray and Julian advised us of what had been in the works with the WinForms controls since the last release. From the improvements to the Scheduling Suite and support for fixed rows in the Vertical Grid, to the introduction of a Skin Chooser, it¡¯s safe to say that these updates have been met with great positivity.

If you¡¯ve not yet seen what you can expect from the next release of the WinForms control library, take a look now and give us your feedback.

Creating Your Own CodeRush Plugins

Anyone that has ever had the good fortune to talk to Rory will know that he is a CodeRush plug-in fanatic. If there's time to be saved with a plug-in, he'll save it. If there¡¯s a problem he can solve with a plug-in, he¡¯ll solve it.

Rory isn¡¯t one to keep the good stuff to himself, which is good news for you readers. This week he started a tutorial series on how to get started with CodeRush plug-ins.

CodeRush plug-ins are good for a great deal of things. Now all you need is to find a problem that needs fixing.

Video Series: Building Reports

Seth Juarez is the DevExpress Data Dude. Bending data to his will like Uri Geller bends spoons, he has started a video tutorial series on how to build reports.

Seth will focus on data sources, architecture, and style to show the breadth of opportunities available with the reports. First up is a 3-tiered approach using Entity Framework and SQL Server as the data provider.

Take a look, and remember to leave your comments for Seth.

VPAT for Section 508 and Web Accessibility Compliance

The Voluntary Product Accessibility Template, or VPAT, is used to document whether a product conforms with the accessibility standards under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Some organizations require a VPAT to verify support before starting a project. Perhaps yours is one of them.
