Microsoft and Xamarin Partner Globally

In November we announced an historic partnership with Microsoft designed to help you build great apps for iOS, Android and Windows. This is a major endorsement of Xamarin by Microsoft and we are thrilled to be working together with the creators of C#. As part of the partnership we co-announced 3 big wins for our joint developer community. Learn more.

Portable Class Library Support

PCL Support

We’re proud to announce that Portable Class Library (PCL) projects are fully supported for iOS and Android to make it even easier to share code. You can now keep common code in a single project, and reference it from any iOS, Android, Windows Phone or Windows Store project—all within a single solution. For more information, check out this Introduction to Portable Class Libraries.

Visual Studio 2013 Support

We're also proud to announce same-day support for Microsoft’s new Visual Studio 2013 release. The release includes improved integration between Visual Studio and Xamarin.iOS Mac Build Hosts, as well as a number of bug fixes and API enhancements. Watch and listen to our Xamarin and Visual Studio 2013 webinar.

Announcing Xamarin University

Xamarin UniversityWe recently launched Xamarin University, a live online, instructor-led training program to teach you about mobile development with Xamarin. Xamarin University features live training by expert Xamarin developers, conducted in small online groups, and includes lectures and lab exercises. Our first Xamarin University class is the 30 Day “Go Mobile” program. Seats are limited, and the January session has already sold out. Enroll today.

Develop for Google Glass with Xamarin.Android

Google has released a sneak peek of the long awaited Glass Developer Kit (GDK) and now Xamarin.Android developers that have access to the GDK can build Google Glass apps. The new APIs and a sample app are available via the Xamarin Component Store. Tell us about your cool Google Glass apps and we’ll feature the best apps in upcoming blog posts.

Windows Azure Portal Welcomes Xamarin

Windows AzureXamarin-specific tutorials and samples are now featured in the windowsazure.com portal. This means instant access to a pre-configured Xamarin sample app and Xamarin-specific C# instructions for implementing Azure features such as data storage and validation, authentication services and push notifications. Simply sign up at AzureMobile.com, and then download the Azure Mobile Services component from within Visual Studio or Xamarin Studio to get started. Also, view Craig Dunn’s webinar on integrating Azure Mobile Services into your apps.

Xamarin Studio 4.2 Enhancements

Our most recent release introduced several significant improvements. Changes to the way Xamarin.iOS binds Objective-C protocols make it easier to adopt a protocol and optional methods. Support for Asset Catalogs makes it easy to manage the variety of images required in an iOS project for icons and launch screens at different resolutions. Portable Class Library (PCL) support is now part of Xamarin Studio, and there are enhancements to version control for Git and Subversion, the Android designer, debugging, source analysis and more. Learn more.

Win $150 in Xamarin Store Credit

In order to help Xamarin’s open source community identify projects that could easily be made Xamarin-compatible, we’re kicking off a December “Scan and Win” contest. By simply using Xamarin’s .NET Mobility Scanner to scan and tweet about your favorite open source .NET projects, you could win $150 of Xamarin Store Credit, to use toward the purchase of any of our Xamarin Store Components, a new Xamarin subscription, or to renew your existing subscription.
